Cathedral Pines Preserve is one of Connecticut’s most awe-inspiring natural wonders, a 42-acre old-growth forest in Cornwall protected as a National Natural Landmark. Dominated by towering white pines and hemlocks that reach 120–140 feet high, the preserve creates a majestic, cathedral-like atmosphere with its tall trunks and filtered sunlight. Originally saved from logging in the 1880s, the stand has a rich history and offers quiet trails for peaceful walks among these ancient giants. Though impacted by a 1989 tornado, the remaining trees and regenerating forest continue to inspire visitors with their scale and serenity. It’s an ideal spot for nature lovers seeking a contemplative, immersive woodland experience in the beautiful Litchfield Hills.
